A Young Man with a Dream
Shaheen Mahmud moves on from the end of a partnership with hands-on experience and excellent customer relationships. He dreams to start his own RMG business at 25 years of age with very little in his pocket but with mammoth aspirations. He hires his first employee and starts the business from 5100 sqft. factory space in Mohakhali Airport Road and purchases local machinery from Gulisthan.

During a time when people were speculative of the RMG industry, a banker finds assurance in his vision and extends a letter of credit.
Wheels Turning
Cotton Group is born and carries out its first export on January 31, 1991. It begins exporting at 700,000 pieces per year with 250 employees. Achieving 200% growth year on year, Cotton Group expanded its factory space to 84,000 sqft by 1995 in a Mirpur facility while focusing on compliance measures within its practices.
Unparalleled Growth
In 1994, Cotton Group moves into its first corporate headquarters while production hit 7,000,000 pieces per year and vertically expands by inaugurating its fabric making facility . The company receives many accolades during this time, including the Prime Minister Export Gold Award as the fastest growing exporter of knitwear.

Shaheen Mahmud continues to be recognized as a Commercially Important Person (“CIP”) for many years. Keeping compliance at the forefront, Cotton Group’s manufacturing facility shifts to Gazipur with a vertical set up.
Racing Forward
Cotton Group acquires 11 acres of land in Valuka, Mymensigh and constructs a 500,000 sqft. facility to expand its manufacturing operations. The company further vertically and horizontally integrates, and opens a fabric making, dyeing, printing and embroidery facility all while focusing on the environmental impact of its operations.

Cotton Group installs a state of the art Effluent Treatment Plant (“ETP”) that runs 24/7 to purify industrial wastewater and releases it to the environment from the harmful effect caused by the effluent.
A Better Tomorrow
Today, Cotton Group runs as a fully-integrated set up that focuses on the whole value chain process from yarn to ready-to-wear. Furthermore, Cotton Group acquired land in the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar – Mirershorai Economic Zone, the largest industrial enclave and also Bangladesh's first multi-sector economic zone, with plans to further expand its operations.
